We purchased (2) X5 bikes... refurbished... had to do some fixing, tightening, adjusting to get them going, some missing minor parts... BUT, upon first ride WEEEE.... a great bike. I'm 240 lbs, so the brakes took some TLC to stop me (I'm not fat, just big). Customer Support Matthew Russel) was EXCELLENT! He delayed our bike shipment until we were back home (FEDEX, SIGNATURE PRESENT AND REQUIRED). Seamless. He's sending a couple of missing parts. Looking forward to our journey. My wife loves this bike. I had bought her the Defiant and another brand full-size electric bike, but she was nervous riding both of them. This is the perfect solution. Lighter weight, ability to have a lower seat, closer to the ground, easier to handle, not having to worry about gears, get on it and go. All these are reasons she loves it. I really like the Defiant, so now we are both happy!

I had my eye on a Jupiter X5 for over a year since I saw and rode one at a boat show. I was impressed by the solid quality of construction vs. other folding bikes, electric or otherwise and wanted something as compact as our existing old bikes. Knew I would be replacing our 10 year old folding Dahons which served us well but were showing their age. Finally bought one and confirmed everything I remembered about it. Well designed and thought out as well as an attractive price considering the high quality. Easy to ride even when just pedaling and not in an electric mode. Waiting for our second old bike to wear out so I can buy another X5!

I like it so much, I bought it again! I already have one, and I've purchased another to use in a different location. It is small and nimble - perfect for a petite female. It is not overly complicated and is light enough for me to lift. It is great for a daily ride for exercise!

We have two of these and use them as shore transportation for our boat. They fold compactly and store in a reduced space. We purchased cloth bags to help protect them from the salt air environment which has worked well so far. We keep the chain and all of the fasteners lubricated to help with the rusting. Our first batteries only lasted about a month before we stored them for the winter and they died while in storage. We purchased replacements from the factory and have used them typically once a week or so and they have now lasted for six months. We have found these to be very handy and use them when we hit port to go eat or shopping or such. Lots of comments and questions from folks who see them. We laughingly refer to them as our clown bikes because of the compact size. You wouldn't want to use these in place of a larger bike if that option is available to you but they sure fit our needs.

I take it with me on trips and have recently enjoyed a nice casual ride around Mission Bay in San Diego. I found that range and speed are more than sufficient. The ride comfort is surprisingly good, thanks to rear suspension and a very comfortable seat. I added the rack, so I can use it for shopping when needed. I'm giving 5 stars because I believe this bike is a great value for the money.

I bought my first X5 two years ago and was highly impressed. I often load the bike into our small plane and use it to get around after landing. It’s really easy to fold and unfold. I liked it so much, I bought another one last year. For some reason, the battery on the newer one failed already so I’ll need to purchase a new battery (the battery only has a 90 day warranty) but I still love the bikes

We needed ebikes to fit in a Cessna 172 for our summer/fall trips to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard. So we bought 2 Discovery X5 bikes since we needed ebikes that were light weight, foldable, and had a horn with front/rear lighting. This bike checked all those boxes! We fit one bike in the Cessna baggage storage area (fits perfect through the door!) and the other in the rear seat. Range isn't close to 35 miles, more like 18. However that's okay, islands are flat and I need the exercise! I'm sure JupiterBike will sell more of these bikes. When we ride these from the plane on the tarmac we turn a lot of heads! A lot of pilots we talked to were going to get one or two. Hope you sell more! We will keep recommending the bike.

This is an update to my March 21 2019 review. Our two Discovery X5 bikes are now nearly 4 years old, still going strong and look like new! The batteries do not hold their charge quite as long, but not so bad as to require new ones. The brake shoes are still OK and all parts on both bikes are still working perfectly without any breakage whatsoever! I still highly recommend these bikes for those who desire lightweight transportation, ones that take little storage and insist on dependability and good looks!

We (husband and I) purchased two Jupiter DiscoveryX5 electric folding bikes. We wanted something that we could ride around campgrounds plus also fit in the basement of our motorhome. This little jewel was perfect! We just got back from a big airshow in Oshkosh, WI and rode these all over the campground and everywhere we could. Being senior citizens - 67 and 74 - these allowed us to venture out more and not have to rely on the busses to get us to the venue where everything was taking place. I'm now thinking of places I can ride around my home as I don't want to wait until we travel again to enjoy this awesome bike.

I had my X5 for three seasons and have put over 1,800 miles on my bike over three summers. Great little bike. Pedal Assist is great on hills and/or against on-coming strong winds. Only maintenance has been a new rear tire inner tube and new plastic petals (bearing wore out on the original plastic petals). Folding option makes it easy to get in my SUV - I bought the carry bag to keep any grease away from my car interior. Highly recommended.

Update to my first review. I've been commuting to/from work 15 miles total on a single charge for two weeks now in blistering hot days. I'm 6'2" 265 lbs. The bike has 30% remaining on the battery at the end of the commute home so i guess it could handle even a 20 mile RT commute for my rider size and weight. The Discovery X5 is in my humble opinion by far the best value in e-bikes out there today and is an engineering marvel.

We are full time boat cruisers and these bikes have been invaluable to us. Everywhere we go people stop us to ask where we got them and how we like them. It was virtually impossible to find an electric folding bike and those we did find were too heavy, too expensive or clunky. The JupiterBike Discovery X5 is easy to transport (we can even load them into our inflatable dinghy) and they perform great. We couldn't be happier!

I am 265 lbs. and 6'2" tall. I needed a bike to commute to and/or from work (6.5 miles each way, 13.2 miles round trip) that also could be carried on intermodal (on buses and/or metro-link trains). I also wanted a bike that was well-under $1000 dollars, had a throttle-only mode in addition to pedal-assist (PAS) modes, and rear-suspension. I also needed an e-bike that could handle a few moderate hills without overheating/cutout of the hub motor. This JupiterBike Discovery X5 really exceeded all my expectations with flying colors. I just finished my first test ride on it. I did lap routes around where I live which include some very challenging hills (not exceptionally long hills, but some 12% grade sections of maybe 25 yards or so embedded in longer gentle grades). The temperature today is 86F with real feel 95F and the 350W hub motor on this Jupiter X5 came through with flying colors! It just kept on going like the pink battery bunny on TV with his drum and big feet. Also, the power delivery was consistent, even when the battery was getting down to 10% or less left, there was still power even in the PAS-1 mode, and of course graded upward power in PAS-2 and PAS-3 as one would want and expect, and even a little bit of throttle-only power even up to the last drop in the battery. In summary as far as endurance and range, this little engine that could JupiterBike Discovery X5 carried a 265 lbs., 6'2" man 12 miles on a hilly test course loop comprised of uphills, downhills, and flats, but more than 50% of the ride was climbing some type of moderate to steep hill and this bike handled it all. I was very impressed. My work commute doesn't have anywhere near as many tough hills, so I now feel confident the JupiterBike Discovery X5 will handle my 13.2 mile work commute easily. The little headlight that comes with the JupiterBike Discovery X5 is quite bright and it's a nice value-add. It also has a little electric horn which is handy if you ride in congested boardwalk areas etc. and is a nice thing to have built-in anyway. The bike was super easy to assemble. Once the packaging protection wrap is removed, it takes less than 5 minutes to have it fully assembled. No tools at all are required other than a pair of scissors to snip the packaging zip ties. The bike is quite lightweight by electric bike standards - only 41 lbs. according to the documents, and it feels light. I can lift it off the ground easily and I don't do any heavy lifting anymore I'm pretty careful about that, but I feel confident hoisting this onto bike racks on a bus if necessary for intermodal travel events. Keep in mind that with the smaller wheels (16") you must pay close attention to the road surface ahead of you at all times, because with smaller wheels even small potholes in the road can swallow up 16" wheels, so you just have to pay attention at all times, or ride on closed course trails that are well-maintained so there isn't as much/any risk that way. This bike is awesome. I have tested several competitors e-bikes some from makers you would recognize immediately and which cost more than this JupiterBike Discovery X5. I will just say that I have tested (and returned) all those other e-bike offerings, because those bikes could not pass my acid tests, but this JupiterBike Discovery X5 is the Spirit of St. Louis in my world - the first one to pass all my tests - and a winner, and a keeper, and it's good even for tall riders who weigh up to 265 lbs., and that's a very big accomplishment by the team at JupiterBike. Hats off to them, good job! Very grateful for this bike and very impressed. My regular ride is a Chevy Silverado 2500HD LS 4-door Fleet-side 8'+ cargo bed, so it's a fairly big p/u truck, and it now costs me over $125 at the gasoline pump each fill-up. I was looking for an e-bike that would handle my 6.6 mile each way, 13.2 mile roundtrip commute each day on mostly flat terrain with a few gentle hills WITHOUT a recharge (my employer doesn't allow charging of employee devices inside the building) and this bike meets all the requirements as described in this review. Sometimes after work, I prefer to go intermodal and just throw the bike on the city bus, and I can do that too with this bike if I want. I paid about $729.57 including all tax and shipping total out the door price for this bike new from a well-known national retailer, so this e-bike used on my commute, figuring in some rain days when I won't use it, will pay for itself in less than 6 months, and it helps the environment to leave my Big Iron Silverado 3/4 ton p/u in the garage for the short commutes such as to/from work, to get a haircut, etc. JupiterBike Discovery X5: Awesome!

We bought 2 Jupiter Discovery bikes and sold our pedal forward Trek bikes. We have yet to run down the batteries and we take them on our RV trailer. They are easy to peddle, have three perfect speeds, and hold up very well. Everybody loves them, and the bikes withstand abuse very well...They are less expensive than most Ebikes, yet perform so much better. This is a well kept elite secret.

All of their other models should be this simple. No gears needed with a 350w motor! Very powerful! Prefer this model over all their other models. Wish it was maybe 5lbs lighter, Belt driven, and $500 price point. Perfect set of features! I can't emphasize enough you don't need 6speeds, single speed + motor is all you need. Make them lighter weight! No other value e-bike comes close, PS I'm 6'5" 200lbs and this is a daily comfort rider for me!!!! WELL DONE. Carbo is the only better e-bike in the world and it's 4X's the price.

I own 5 bikes, 2 are electric. And this is by far the one I use most - because of how convenient and lightweight it is. "Throwing" it into the trunk of my small hatchback is a breeze compared to having to wrestle with a bike rack. When I reach my destination, grabbing it out of the car, and unfolding it is equally quick. I added my own seat-post suspension and gel seat to make this bike even more comfortable. I've listed the following pros and cons: Pros: - lightweight, easy to carry in and out of the car. - easy & quick 4-step folding: remove seat, fold pedals, fold frame, fold handlebar stem. - attractive no-weld futuristic-looking rectangular frame - it's nice to have a rear suspension, built-in horn and lights - Was a good value purchase at Costco.com price Cons: - Small wheel size limits speed when I've maxed out my cadence. - My particular bike suffers from a bad rear brake squealing - Something in the front assembly squeaks every time I hit a bump. A little worrying. - no front fork suspension (not even the X7 has it). - I feel "top heavy" when going downhill at speed. A little scary! - The small battery will run down quickly if you don't pedal and just rely on the throttle. Conclusion: an attractive looking bike to ride around the neighborhood, to commute in the city or just to get out. But watch those downhill speeds. Creaking front frame assembly will need to be further investigated. I'd probably be more comfortable with something slightly bigger like the X7 or Summit. I hope they'll sell in Costco.com again.

For years we hauled around a clunky golf cart on a trailer..got really tired of that and decided on an E-bike. Our local surf shop in St Petersburg Beach, FL carried the Jupiter line and when we saw these..especially folded up..we were sold. Sturdy..super comfortable..powerful and long range. The small size will fool you at first, but these little bikes are the real deal. We stash the bikes inside the RV and no longer drag an EZ-GO

I was in a bad place for a long time. My wife of 12 years had just walked out on me, or drove out in the Volvo I recently bought. I couldn't drive it, legally, because of a DUI. For driving on Xanax prescribed for a near crippling case of combat PTSD. I had no lisence to drive. The bus was not an option for me. Getting out of the house. Just to check the mail ain't a real picnic for me. I ordered MRE's from Amazon.com to feed myself cuz shopping and hauling on foot home wasn't practical. When I could bare to stand in the Safeway knowing I couldn't cover my own back. I didn't have a team any more. I bought the Jupiter Discovery (I jokingly say Recovery) X-5 After having had limited success baby stepping, like Bill Murray a'la "What about Bob?" and experimenting with cheap electric bikes & scooters. None of which posessed the range needed for me to complete my mission. The X-5 is a game changer. For me. It has the power. The range. The style. It is nimble & powerful. I will never have a team again to watch my back. Because that's how we did in training and war. The X-5 earned all the awards I earned in the Army in my book. For keeping me going through the bad times. I would never salute the machine because if it were a soldier it would surely not be an Officer. More of a ground pounder like I was once. Together we accomplished my mission I made it across town & over the treacherous overpasses & returned safely from the DMV with my new Oregon Drivers Lisence. With battery to spare. I bought two of these ebikes, one for my wife and the other for me, we love them. We like the fold-up feature and have taken them to several different, paved trails in our area and plan to take them camping this summer. We've also purchased two additional batteries for our upcoming camping trips to be sure we have plenty of power without running a generator to charge them. With 16" tires, and the 350-watt motor, these ebikes have enough power to go most of the places we've taken them. We really like the unique design of these ebikes, we have not found anything we feel is more asthetically pleasing than these Jupiter Discovery X5 Folding Electric Bikes!

The X-5 goes 16mph and 23mph downhill pedaling. Excellent and enjoyable workout. Goes uphill easily with/without pedaling. Great value as well!

I'm 81 years old and have been looking for an e-bike for the last couple years. I'm really impressed with the finish and attention to details. I rode for about in hour in hilly terrain for the first time this afternoon. I was impressed with the power and use of the battery. It only used about 10 % of the battery. I felt like I got a good work out, and I will be using it a lot in the future.

We have had two Discovery X5 bikes for about 2 months and have ridden only a little bit due to the cold weather. We are 68 and 72 year old. We like the bikes. My wife needs some assist as she improves her conditioning level and our terrain is very hilly -- the only flat spots are some of the parking lots. We use the assist on the hills. One drawback is that I am 75" tall and the bike is a little small for me. I will be looking for a longer seat post so that my knee does not hit the horn button. I will also probably replace the seat with something a little larger.

Bought 2 Discovery X5s, one for me and one for my wife. So far they have been great. The both fit perfectly in the back of our 2011 Chevy Equinox. We took them to the park today and these things pull! My wife is not a bike rider, but she had fun on this! The park is surrounded by a 2 mile compacted dirt trail, and the X5s handled it perfectly, also when riding on some low cut grass. Can't wait to buy some accessories for it. One issue that I had was on one of the e-bikes, the front rotor was slightly rubbing the brake pad out the box. I never adjusted rotor brakes before, but I found the 1 Allen bolt that adjusted the tension. It does look like there is a little bit of warp in the rotor, but not too much. Not sure if this will be an issue down the road. The other one was perfect out of the box.

Purchased mine 2 weeks ago. Arrived all in good shape and assembled quickly. Battery was iffy so contacted Jupiter and new battery was immediately provided. Customer service was outstanding and helpful. Highly recommend Jupiter Bikes. The ride is fabulous. Great range. Comfortable seat. Easy to fold and stow in small places (we live in a 23’ long RV).

I just purchased an X5 from Costco yesterday. Today I opened the box and I’m trying to prepare it so I can use it. I am now charging the battery. I notice no fender inside the box and no tool kit to tighten some of the parts. I don’t know if you have them separately but what I’m assured of is that on the manual cover the fenders were in the photo. I would also be delighted to know if there’s available bag I can purchase just in case I decide to buy an X5 cargo rack?

So I recently gained some weight and I have limited physical activity due to some recent Health Issues.. this bike is a awesome way to get yourself back out there and with pedal assist decide how much excersise you can endure along with enjoying the outdoor environment! I weigh passed 200 and the bike had no problem handling my weight! My wife had RA and loved the bike and it easy use and comfortability! Costco has them for 599.00 and they go fast what a steal! Even the 795.00 is a great price! I highly recommend this E bike if you are looking for compact and powerful!

My wife and I are 66 years young and looking forward to riding the bike trails around Pinellas and Pasco counties. I bought this from Costco at a great price and love it! I went back a few days later and they were all sold out! I have as much power going up our very steep hills outside Seattle as I do with our full sized electric bike. I probably won't use it for long rides since the charge won't last that long but just for short trips it's fantastic, very comfortable and feels quite sturdy and well made. I purchased the rack for it too.

I was worried about unboxing this bike and putting it together, but it was super easy. The bike comes almost completely together and I noticed they have a video on their website. I have been studying folding electric bikes online for 18 months. This is the bike I decided on and after buying two Discovery models from JupiterBike in Florida, I am not disappointed! Best design, quality, features, riding stability, comfort, small folding size and an absolute blast to ride. No peddling needed, but it’s there if you need or want it. Bike’s seat is 32” min. from floor, but with purchase of a shorter post, can easily be 28” for shorter legs. Headlight is bright and adjustable, tail light is bright and uniquely built into the bottom of of the most comfortable seat I’ve had on a bicycle. Cool digital display gives all needed info. Cute sounding little horn as well. Battery is easily removable, hidden in frame and key locks in place. I am 75, 6 feet tall at nearly 200 lbs. and the bike has delivered what it promises. I rode for over 2 hours on mostly flat terrain on a 100 degree day in AZ yesterday and still had 58% power when I arrived home. Both my bikes arrived within a week in a well packaged box and in perfect condition. Very highly recommend this bike if you want to put some fun in your life!
