A little background first - please forgive me but I want to set the stage a bit for my Jupiter Defiant ST review. I started about 4 years ago with the Jupiter Bikes on the Jupiter X5. My Jupiter X5 was an amazing e-bike that handled my round-trip commute to work (about 15 miles round trip) on a single charge with 40% battery life remaining and my weight was about 250 lbs!) I upgraded after a year of loving the Jupiter X5 to the Jupiter X7 and here are the reasons why: First, The X7 has 20" wheels (compared to 16" wheels on the X5) and 20" wheels are the minimum required for putting a bike in the bike racks on the outside front of our St. Louis Metro Transit buses, which allowed me to go "inter-modal" on rainy or cold nights without having to fold the bike and put it int a bike bag and and lift it into the bus with me (I am going to be 65 years old this year and I find it easier to lift the bike onto the bike racks on the front of the city bus rather than break the bike down to folded, bag it, and take on the bus, especially if bus is crowded and in the dark at the bus stop). The second reason I upgraded to X7 was because of the longer wheelbase compared to the X5. The ultra-compact wheelbase of the X5 sometimes caused the front wheel to be very light off the ground when climbing a very steep hill due to my 250 lbs weight. The X7 has been and still is for me an AWESOME bike! I would say overall the Jupiter X7 is the most versatile and greatest of Jupiter's entire lineup of bikes because it hits the "sweet spot" of being relatively light for an e-bike, and as mentioned previously it's abiltiy to go intermodal on trains and buses, and it's very good battery that has power to spare. The Defiant has derailleur gears which I like. It also is full-suspension e-bike which is MUST for me and always has been. No matter what my weight is, and I fluctuate between 220-280, my back LOVES full-suspension bikes! The Defiant comes with a very nice rear cargo rack and front and rear fenders which is also a MUST for commuting to work so my Dockers work trousers and golf shirts don't get dirty they stay clean. In August 2025 though I opted to add the Jupiter Defiant ST to my stable of e-bikes (just unboxed and built it a couple months ago during the winter). I took my first ride on it today February 15, 2026 and WOW the Jupiter Defiant ST is very impressive. The battery life is amazing!! I went to church and back 9.1 miles and I weigh 280 lbs right now (winter fat), and the battery indicator still shows 100% battery life! And that is what I was hoping: that this bike would live up to it's hype as a battery range champ and it is! The top-of-the Jupiter lineup 48V 13.2Ah battery in this Jupiter Defiant ST, and the top-of-the Jupiter lineup 750W motor (compared to the 350W motor of my X7) and the low-step-through make this e-bike very "moped-like" in terms of power and range. Just my opinion for me this is a 100% round-trip bike and with the big fat tires I feel much more confident handling potholes especially when riding home from work at night. I try to avoid potholes but every now and then you know you may encounter something on the road surface, and those big fat tires give me added confidence the bike can handle roadway imperfections and hazards. The other thing I LOVE about the Jupiter Defiant ST is that the battery can be removed SUPER EASILY from above without having to open the bike fold mechanism (you have to open the fold mechanism on the X7 to swap batteries). On the Jupiter Defiant ST the battery lifts right out of the frame from above. I like that feature because if I want to use the Jupiter Defiant ST as a "normal non-powered bike" I can just lift out the relatively heavy battery and ride it as a regular bike, or if I need to lift the bike to go up stairs or something, or if I want to swap battery - it's super easy to reduce the weight of the bike in a snap by just popping the battery out. Lastly having the low step through on the Defiant ST is very nice for unexpected sudden stops in traffic and safer and easier to manage mounting and dismounting the bike. I typically mount a bike the way I would a horse - a "flying start" if you will. But Defiant ST is very nice for being able to mount the bike safely from a standing stopped position using a very low "step-thru" so it is a very safe bike in that respect. In terms of typical review content, the bike has great brakes, comes with front and rear bike-powered headlight/tailight, and has a very comfortable saddle no need to replace it. The only "cons" I have for this bike are relatively minor. (1) I prefer the "twist-grip" throttle of the Jupiter X7 to the "thumb-throttle" of the Jupiter Defiant ST. Also on my Jupiter X7 I use all the power-assist modes during a ride for different situations to get the most battery-life on my Jupiter X7 trips, that is to say I only use the battery to the extent that I need it and try to do a significant amount of the pedaling effort myself. In other words the Jupiter X7 is a beautiful blending of man and machine (or woman and machine) where all the pedal assist modes 1, 2 and 3 have their natural uses on any given ride depending on whether climbing a hill (how steep) or riding on a flat etc. On my X7 my goal is to get a workout but not break much of a sweat (because I'm commuting to work). So X7 is brilliant in the way that you can "play" the bike like a violin - use all of its' power-assist modes, and all of its' mechanical derailleur gears to maximize the distance you can get out of the battery. This Jupiter Defiant ST that I'm reviewing now - it is truly a different animal in that respect. It has so MUCH raw POWER to spare that you don't really have to use all the bikes modes carefully like on the X7. I find myself just dialing in power-assist 5 max mode (the highest mode) and just jamming full speed ahead to and from work, to and from Church, to and from Shopping. The Defiant ST has so much power that its' really a set it and forget it in power mode 5 and just cruise along getting where you need to go much faster with much less effort.

I’ve been riding the Jupiter Defiant ST for a couple of weeks now, and I’m honestly loving it. The fat tires handle trails and city streets equally well, and the step-through frame makes it super convenient. The motor has plenty of power for hills, and I’m impressed by how long the battery lasts on a single charge. It’s just a fun, solid ride that makes me want to get out more.
